Andrew Werners

Founder, Firm, and Mission

Andrew Werners is the Founder and Principal of Pitchside Sports Consulting, a football-regulatory firm built to address the legal, economic, and capacity gaps shaping professional football across CONCACAF and the wider global game.

He holds an LL.B. in International and European Law from The Hague University of Applied Sciences and an ISDE Master in International Sports Law. His legal foundation is rooted in international legal systems, institutional governance, and the global legal order, which helped shape the firm’s internationally aligned approach to football regulation.

Andrew began his career at the Canadian Soccer Players Association, where he contributed to one of the first collective bargaining agreements in North American professional soccer between players and a football institution. That experience was important in understanding player rights, collective representation, and one of the defining structural differences between the North American sports model and the wider international football system.

He later worked at ESL Sports Law in London on FIFA Football Tribunal and Court of Arbitration for Sport matters, where he developed practical experience in football-specific dispute resolution, FIFA procedure, contractual disputes, and the regulatory realities of the international transfer system.

Andrew then served as legal counsel to the World Leagues Association, working at the center of global football stakeholder engagement on FIFA regulatory reform, governance, compliance, and Regulatory Working Group processes involving professional leagues from around the world. That experience helped sharpen the firm’s institutional perspective and reinforced the need for stronger football-regulatory capacity across the CONCACAF market.

Pitchside Sports Consulting takes its initials from PSC, a reference to the Player Status Committee, one of the football institutions central to player status, contractual disputes, registration matters, and the regulation of player movement. The name reflects the firm’s football-specific identity and its focus on regulatory precision within the professional game.

Today, PSC is positioned as a football-regulatory firm with a competitive law-firm presence in the market, combining specialist regulatory knowledge, international football expertise, and strategic insight for clubs, players, leagues, agents, federations, and other football stakeholders navigating the global regulatory system.
